Labour ComplianceThe Government of Nagaland, on December 17, 2025, issued the Nagaland Shops and Establishments (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, to amend the Nagaland Shops and Establishments Act, 1982.

The following has been stated:-

•This ordinance is the Nagaland Shops and Establishments (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, promulgated to reduce compliance burdens.

•It amends Section 1 to limit regular compliance strictly to shops and establishments employing 20 or more persons.

•It mandates that hotels, restaurants, eating houses, and cafes must close no later than 11:00 PM.

•Daily working hours are capped at 10 hours (48 hours weekly), with overtime limited to 144 hours per quarter.

•Employers must obtain written consent from pregnant or lactating women before requiring them to work overtime.

•Individuals under 18 are prohibited from working past 8:00 PM, and women working night shifts require written consent alongside guaranteed safety provisions.

It shall come into force on June 30, 2026.
